Unit size Floor area Planning example Check before choosing
5 × 5 25 sq. ft. Boxed belongings with a few compact items. Measure shelving and any furniture first.
5 × 10 50 sq. ft. A modest furniture group and packed boxes. Plan where the longest item will sit.
10 × 10 100 sq. ft. Several furniture pieces with household boxes. Allow for items that cannot be stacked.
10 × 15 150 sq. ft. A larger mix of furniture, appliances, and boxes. Include a walkway if you’ll visit regularly.
10 × 20 200 sq. ft. A substantial household or renovation inventory. Sketch bulky items to scale before deciding.
10 × 30 300 sq. ft. A larger inventory with multiple bulky pieces. Check door clearance and usable interior dimensions.

Floor area is width × depth. Actual fit also depends on unit height, door opening, item dimensions, packing arrangement, and access space.

Measure once. Choose with confidence.

Three steps to a better fit.

Count the whole load

List furniture, appliances, and boxes. Include awkward items such as bicycles and shelving that can take up more floor space than expected.

Measure your largest pieces

Record length, width, and height. Note what can be disassembled and which items need to remain upright or cannot safely support stacked boxes.

Plan how you’ll use the space

Place frequently needed items near the entrance. Leave an access path and allow extra room if you expect to add belongings later.

Boat, trailer & vehicle sizing

Parking needs a different measurement.

Measure the complete parked setup, including the trailer tongue, hitch, motor, and any attachments. Check the overall width and height as well as length.

Before choosing outdoor parking near Indian Lake, call with those measurements. Ask about space dimensions, maneuvering room, and current availability.

Common sizing questions

Before you decide.

How much bigger is a 10×20 than a 10×10?

A 10×20 has 200 square feet of floor space—twice the 100 square feet of a 10×10. Both are nominally 10 feet wide, but the 10×20 adds 10 feet of depth.

Can I choose by the number of bedrooms?

Bedroom counts are only rough estimates. Two homes with the same bedroom count can contain very different amounts of furniture. An item list and measurements provide a more useful starting point.

Should I fill every square foot?

If you need regular access, plan a walkway instead of packing wall to wall. Allow space to open boxes and remove items without unloading the whole unit.
